5 90’s Movies That Changed Fashion

It’s no secret that the 90’s is back in a big way. From grungy plaid prints to high-waisted mom jeans - it’s the trend that just won’t die! So to celebrate this decade of fun and sometimes questionable fashion, the experts at HIDDEN have put together their top 5 90’s films for fashion inspiration.
Clueless (1995)

At this point, Clueless is as synonymous with the 90’s fashion as choker necklaces and Buffalo boots. Our girl Cher was well ahead of her time with her ultra organised closet, saying we were jealous is a huge understatement! Miss Horowitz’s style is so iconic that Australian rapper Iggy Azalea even paid homage to the peppy high-schooler in the music video for her smash hit Fancy.

The Craft (1996)

When it comes to fashion lovers with a taste for the darker side, there’s only one 90’s film that's blacker than our souls - The Craft. Yes, “light as a feather, stiff as a board” is not just a saying, it’s a way of life! In particular, angsty Nancy Downs found a way into our inner goth girl hearts with her all-black assembles and extreme eyeliner

She’s All That (1999)

Okay, so this movie just sneaked its way into the 90’s - but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve its position on this list. The original ugly duckling teen movie, "She's All That" gave birth to a whole genre of early 00’s teen flicks. Who can forget the iconic moment when Lanny finally comes down the stairs in THAT red dress! Just remember next time you sit down to watch “Bring it On” or “10 Things I Hate About You” that Lanny’s red dress was the dress that launched a thousand movies.

Basic Instinct (1992)

Paul Verhoeven’s thriller masterpiece not only introduced the world to Sharon Stone but also taught a whole generation of women a lesson in minimalistic power dressing. Catherine Tramell’s iconic white turtleneck dress gave us chills, taking 80’s power dressing into a new decade with an icy yet glamorous facade.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Not only is this one of the most iconic movies full stop, but it also brought attention to Uma Thurman as a fashion icon. Thurman’s character, Mia Wallace’s blunt bob and crisp white shirt are instantly recognisable - showing us sometimes less is more. Providing a welcome source of glamour in the gritty world of Tarantino's 90’s LA, Mia will forever be immortalised as a fashion icon.

Keep it timeless with our range of shirts.
